Data we collect
We collect personal data, which you provide voluntarily to us. Additionally, when you visit our website, certain information is automatically collected from you.
- Data you provide to us – When you contact us via email; when you inquire about programs; when you apply for scholarships; when you participate in our survey to extend a scholarship.
- Data we collect automatically – When you visit our website, or when you leave comments on the site, we use cookies to collect activity information, in the way described below:
- Cookies – If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
- If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year.
- If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks.
- If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Data regarding children
The Sweet Blue Foundation does not knowingly collect information from or about children without verifiable parental consent.
How we use the data we collect
We may use the personal data you make available to us as follows:
- To send email newsletters;
- To process your grant or scholarship applications;
- To run programs, grants and scholarships;
- To disburse grant or scholarship funds;
- To respond to your inquiries and/or requests;
- To improve our programs;
- To solicit grant or scholarship applications.
Finally, we may use the data we collect automatically, not only to maintain and improve our site, but also to understand the demographics of our site visitors.
Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. However, we may share your personal data within the Foundation for administrative reasons aimed at processing our applicants’ requests for scholarships.
Social Media
We maintain a social media presence, such as a LinkedIn page and an Instagram page. You can interact with us through social media, such as by posting content, sharing material from our sites, and using our social media plug-ins. When you interact with us using social media, we may receive information such as your user ID, your profile picture, photos you post, and similar information, which is often determined by your privacy settings at social media sites. We may use the information for the same types of purposes we describe throughout this Policy. Your use of social media sites is primarily governed by the site operators’ privacy policies and terms of service, and the information you share with us and with others is largely controlled by the privacy settings you have established at those sites.
How long we retain your data
We will store your personal data until they are no longer needed to fulfill the purpose for which they were collected.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
We utilize “Jotform” for processing student applications, and “GiveWP & Stripe” for donations. Any information and/or documentation provided is securely stored within these services.
Changes to this Policy
We may update portions of this Policy from time to time and will alert you that changes have been made by indicating on the Policy the date it was last updated. When you visit our website, you are accepting the current version of this Policy as posted at that time.
